When it comes to making a sale, being able to effectively educate the customer on the latest and greatest technology features can be your “Everest.” Look no further...we’re here to help!

The all-new Kia Seltos is generating buzz for its infotainment system and advanced in-cabin technology. Let’s take a closer look, trim by trim, at five of its most exciting tech features: 1) infotainment, 2) UVO link* capabilities, 3) wireless phone charger* shelf, 4) mood lighting that can pulse with music, and 5) rear door locking features. By the time you’re done with this article, you’ll be equipped to explain these highly advanced tech features in simple terms in the showroom. Let’s jump in...

An intuitive approach to infotainment...

For average customers purchasing a new vehicle today, the infotainment system is undeniably one of the most important interior considerations. And also potentially one of the most intimidating! Let’s get our arms around what Seltos has to offer.

On LX, S, EX, and S1.6T trims, you’ll find a standard 8-inch touch screen color LCD audio system with the following features:

  • Rear View Monitor*
  • USB connection
  • Support for Android AutoTM* and Apple CarPlay®* smartphone integration
  • Six speakers

Standard on the SX trim, Seltos boasts a 10.25-inch touch screen color LCD system. It includes the following:

  • UVO link*
  • Navigation*
  • Split screen capability (three-way)
  • Customizable home screen
  • Multi-Bluetooth®* connectivity
  • Bose* premium audio with eight speakers

Let’s take a closer look at what makes this system so intuitive and convenient for your customers...

Split screen? Yes, please!

An innovative split screen feature allows users to access information that’s important to them without sacrificing their navigation* view.

A highly customizable home screen...

Via two types of home screen layouts—Advanced and Basic—users are able to edit and rearrange the widgets and icons on their Home Screen.

Multi-Bluetooth® connectivity = Awesome

Yes, “multi-connectivity” means what its name implies—two Bluetooth®* devices can be connected to the head unit at the same time, allowing users to effortlessly switch between streaming audio from one device to another. Sharing is indeed caring.

Wireless Phone Charger is available!

Standard on Seltos EX and SX trims is an advanced wireless mobile device charging shelf.

Here are some notable features of the Wireless Phone Charger* shelf:

  • Foreign Object Detection (FOD) – Charging is disabled for foreign objects like coins and pens
  • Phone left alone reminder – If the key is turned off while a device is being charged, an alert appears on the cluster display

The mood lighting that pulses with the music is as cool as it sounds...

For customers looking for added personalization, on the SX trim, the door speaker grille of the all-new Seltos includes a stunning “indirect mood light” that changes color and intensity according to the volume level.

A couple of fun notes about the mood light:

  • It’s controllable from the infotainment system
  • There are six unique color “theme” options and eight color “glow” options

Speaking of Lighting—One-Touch Driver and Front Passenger Lighting!

  • The driver and front passenger can conveniently tap the overhead lights to illuminate the cabin
  • The lights can still be activated with an overhead button, but the one-touch tap feature adds a bit of elegance to the environment

UVO link*—It Keeps Getting Better (And it was already great!)

Seltos will debut a host of new UVO link* features aimed at increasing the system’s capabilities and improving the user experience. Some highlights include:

  • The in-vehicle notification center now holds all Kia issued messages, including: maintenance, recalls, & warranty information.
  • Users can now adjust select vehicle settings via UVO link* and can sync those setting with other compatible vehicles.
  • Improved user experience with next generation connected notifications, including: sunroof, windows, fuel level, brake level, engine oil levels, and more.
  • The Engine Idle Notification and Vehicle Auto-Shut Off sends an alert if the vehicle has been idling for 10 minutes and turns it off automatically. More on that below!

Vehicle Auto-Shut Off: Convenience + Efficiency

Seltos expertly manages efficiency with Vehicle Auto-Shut Off, standard on EX and SX trims.

  • After certain conditions are met, this feature automatically shuts the vehicle off after a pre-set time (30 or 60 minutes, or OFF).
  • The pre-set time can be changed in the user settings; however, after the vehicle turns off and is turned back on again, the system resets to the default settings.
  • An initial instrument cluster message pops up, along with a beep, when the countdown timer first begins. The second “warning” message appears at the one-minute countdown with a continuous beeping sound.

Remember to note this unique function with your EX and SX customers—they’ll appreciate the heads up.

Enough Fun, Let’s Lock It Up (Literally!)

A quick glance in the rear seats may have you wondering “Hey, where’s the door lock switch?” Answer: There are none.

One For All, And All For One (Lock, that is)

To help enhance driver and passenger security, doors lock automatically based on user settings. Drivers may change the setting to lock doors, opting to “Enable Based on Speed” or “Enable on Shift from P.” While similar, there are nuances to each option that are important to understand...

When “Enable on Shift from P” is selected:

  • Doors will lock automatically when the vehicle is shifted from Park.
  • If the driver pushes the door unlock button then the doors will stay unlocked until the vehicle is put to P and then back to D or another gear.
  • The doors can also be unlocked by pulling the door handle once.

When “Enable Based on Speed” is selected:

  • Doors will lock automatically when the vehicle speed exceeds 10 mph.
  • If the rear passenger attempts to open the door above this speed, the doors do not unlock.
  • If the driver uses the door control to unlock the vehicle above this speed, the vehicle will detect it and instantly re‐lock the doors.
  • It is possible for the driver to un‐lock the doors using the door control and in the split‐second it takes for the car to react and re‐lock it, the second-row doors can be opened, but this is very difficult to do.
  • The doors unlock when the ignition key is removed from the ignition switch, or the ENGINE START/STOP button is set to the OFF position, or by bringing the vehicle speed below 10mph and the door handle is pulled once.

Can a rear passenger open the rear?

It is possible for the second-row passenger to open the doors by pulling the door handle once to unlock the door, and then pulling again to open the door. In essence, two pulls on the door handle. Of course, every Seltos is equipped with child safety locks to keep the rear doors locked from the inside at all times.
