EV6’s Distance to Empty technology monitors how the vehicle is driven, along with other impactful road conditions, and provides the driver with an estimate of the battery’s remaining All Electric Range* or ‘distance to empty’. Customers can find their approximate DTE mileage on the right-side of the instrument cluster and should be aware that certain conditions can have an impact on this estimate, causing the number to fluctuate.

Tips to Get the Most EV Range*
Always maintain recommended tire pressures
Minimize use of electrical components while driving

Do not load unnecessary items or cargo in the vehicle
Limit the use of external cargo add ons that may increase wind resistance and vehicle weight
Note: The EV6 is engineered with everyday life in mind and is designed to handle a roof rack*, haul cargo*, or even tow* with it’s available 2,300-lb. capacity. These are only suggestions to help customers maximize their range* when not all of EV6’s capabilities are required.
The Distance to Empty monitor uses different technologies to estimate the EV6’s All Electric Range*, but they vary based on one major factor: whether a destination has been set in the vehicle’s navigation*.
When no destination has been set, the Distance to Empty monitor operates on a limited scope, relying solely on the heating and air conditioning settings, previous driving patterns, and natural battery degradation to calculate the vehicle’s remaining range*.
However, when the driver sets a destination, the Distance to Empty can access and utilize additional information provided by EV6’s standard navigation* system, including anticipated geography, road conditions, and traffic data—providing the driver with a more proactive range* estimate.

Maximizing EV6’s
All Electric Range*
A wide range of variables can impact EV6’s All Electric Range*, but it is important for customers to be aware of the most commonly-encountered types.
Heating and Air Conditioning Impact
Heavy use of the heating or air conditioning systems can significantly reduce the vehicle’s All Electric Range* (AER). To prevent this drain, Kia recommends setting the climate control on “AUTO” at 72° Fahrenheit; this setup keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature, while maintaining optimal energy consumption rates. Engaging the “Driver Only” mode can help further minimize usage.
The Recirculating setting can also be utilized to reduce the heating and air conditioning’s impact, as it takes less energy to keep cool air cool or hot air hot than heating or cooling fresh air. If there is no need for the heater or air conditioner, turn it off to conserve charge. You can also reduce battery drain by using the heated* seats and heated steering wheel (if equipped) instead of the heater.

Previous Driving Pattern Impact
The Distance to Empty monitor uses previous driving patterns to estimate the remaining AER*. If the driver drove at high speeds or accelerated quickly—which uses more of the battery’s energy—on the previous drive cycle, the Distance to Empty monitor will display a lower remaining range*. But, if the driver used the ECO drive mode, drove slowly, and gradually depressed the accelerator pedal when accelerating, the Distance to Empty monitor may estimate a longer range*.
Natural Battery Degradation
As an electric vehicle ages, it is natural for the battery to lose some of its capacity. This degradation can impact the Distance to Empty, resulting in a lower estimated range* than when the vehicle was new. Though minor degradation is unavoidable, customers can rest easy knowing their vehicle is protected by Kia’s 10-year/100,000-mile Battery Pack Warranty*, which covers battery degradation.
