When it comes to electrified vehicles, efficiency is key. That’s why the EV6 comes equipped with an Adjustable Regenerative Braking System to capture the kinetic energy created while braking or decelerating that would otherwise be lost. The vehicle then stores the captured energy in the high-voltage battery for use—potentially increasing EV6’s overall driving range*. Some of the benefits are:

• Less vehicle maintenance/Cost savings: Regenerative braking (when activated) uses the electric motor(s) to slow the vehicle down, so the customer doesn’t use the brakes as much. This reduces brake wear and the need to perform brake maintenance as frequently as in an ICE vehicle.
• Using regenerative braking is a whole new way for the customer to drive: It delivers a unique, distinctly different driving experience from an ICE vehicle. For example, a customer can use regenerative braking in stop & go traffic to drive the car with only the accelerator pedal (one-pedal aka I-pedal) reducing the need to move their foot between the accelerator and brake pedals.

Adjustable Regenerative Braking System

The Adjustable Regenerative Braking System offers four general levels of regeneration—0, 1, 2, and 3—and a maximum regeneration mode called i-PEDAL, all of which are controlled by two paddle-shifters on the backside of the steering wheel. The paddle on the left side increases the regeneration level, while the paddle on the right side decreases it.

Level 0 provides the lightest deceleration and little to no regeneration, while Level 3 provides the strongest deceleration and the most regeneration. Customers can pull and hold the left paddle in any mode to temporarily obtain MAX regeneration, or they may engage I-PEDAL to maximize regeneration for longer periods.

The various levels of regeneration may cause the vehicle behavior to feel different, including a ‘heavier’ braking-feel or a ‘harder’ pressure required to accelerate. Let customers know that even if additional force on the pedal is needed to increase or maintain speed as they escalate regeneration levels, the system does not cause excess energy use.

Additional Features of the Regenerative Braking System

Smart Regeneration System*:

The Smart Regeneration System* automatically adjusts the regenerative braking to the various available levels based on a vehicle being detected in front of the EV. It helps minimize unnecessary operation of the brake and acceleration pedals, helping to improve vehicle efficiency and assist the driver.

To activate the system:

• Pull and hold the right-side paddle
• “AUTO” will appear in the REGENERATIVE BRAKING level icon on the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
• While driving, if the system does not detect a vehicle in front, the “AUTO” indicator will be white, meaning it’s in standby
• When a vehicle is detected, “AUTO” will turn blue, meaning the system is active
• After entering “AUTO”, the minimum amount of deceleration can be set to the driver’s preference by using the paddles

To deactivate the system:

• Pull and hold the right-side paddle again for more than one second

i-PEDAL:

i-PEDAL provides the maximum amount of regenerative braking and also enables the driver to bring the vehicle to a gentle halt, without needing to press the brake pedal for maximum convenience.

To activate the system:

• Pull the left-side paddle once again to “MAX”
• The “i-PEDAL” indicator symbol will be illuminated on the instrument cluster

To deactivate the system:

• Pull the right-side paddle to decrease to the preferred level of regenerative braking
