Below is an excerpt from the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Reference Guide. Continuing this week, Kia University wants you to get comfortable with the ADAS technology that will help assist your customers when parking.

REAR VIEW MONITOR* (RVM)
Uses a camera located in the rear of the vehicle to help provide the driver with a view of what is behind the vehicle. It becomes active when the car is put in Reverse.

SURROUND VIEW MONITOR* (SVM)
Uses front, side and rear view cameras to create a virtual 360 degree view for low-speed and parking maneuvers.

PARKING DISTANCE WARNING-REVERSE* (PDW-R)
Can detect certain objects behind the vehicle. It can issue an audible warning beep when an obstruction is detected; the beep becomes faster as the vehicle gets closer to the detected object.

PARKING DISTANCE WARNING-FORWARD* (PDW-F)
Can detect certain objects in front of the vehicle. It can issue an audible warning beep when an obstruction is detected; the beep becomes faster as the vehicle gets closer to the detected object.

PDW-R and PDW-F utilize the same technology; the only difference between the two systems is where the sensors are located. A vehicle will either have PDW-R, or both PDW-R and PDW-F.
