The 2020 Kia Niro EV EX was tested on the streets of San Diego to figure out the real-world driving range by AMCI Testing*. Many factors influence range, and while the EPA’s* estimated 239-mile All Electric Range* (AER) presents one range estimate, Kia retained an independent firm to measure the Niro EV’s range.

Even More Real-World Range Than Estimated

With so many Niro EV owners reporting actual ranges well in excess of EPA* estimated 239 All Electric Range* (AER), Kia asked AMCI Testing*, an independent third party specialist, to assess the real-world driving range to compare against the government’s EPA* test cycle methodologies. And the results were Stunning!

All Electric Range* (AER) can vary considerably, based on many factors, including driving conditions, regenerative braking level, and personal driving habits. So, the 2020 Kia Niro EV EX was put to the test by AMCI Testing.

AMCI Testing’s* range testing consisted of two different scenarios. First, the Real-World City/Highway Cycle involved a 48.8-mile city/highway cycle route in Southern California. Second, the Real-World City Cycle involved a 71.2-mile city cycle route in Southern California. The following settings were maintained during the AMCI Testing* Real-World City/ Highway Cycle:

• Drive Mode: ECO
• Coast Energy: Level 3
• HVAC Mode: Eco, 74 degrees

Similarly, for the AMCI Real-World City Cycle testing, the following settings were maintained:

• Drive Mode: ECO+
• Coast Energy: Level 3
• HVAC Mode: A/C Off, Fan Manual, 62 degrees

When leaving the recommended 5% emergency-battery reserve, the AMCI Testing* Certified real-world fully charged ranges for the 2020 Kia Niro EV EX were:

As you can see, even with the emergency reserve range intact, the 2020 Niro EV EX was able to achieve 41 more miles over the EPA*-estimated range when driving on city streets and highways. When driving only on city streets, the 2020 Niro EV EX saw 65 miles more range than the EPA* estimate.

Second only to range anxiety is charge time worry. But the Kia Niro EV has available DC Fast Charging* that will put customers’ minds at ease. For the Niro EV:
