SUBJECT: IQS Quick Tip #5 - Wiper Operation – Lifting Wipers
DATE: November 2022
It is important to ensure that new Kia owners are familiar with the front and rear wiper/washer operation, and Auto Control Rain Sensing function (if equipped).

In most models, the wiper mode can be displayed in the instrument cluster as well.
Please also refer customers to the Owner's Manual and Features and Functions Guide (FFG) for instructions on how to lift the wiper blades to avoid damaging the paint on the hood, as some 2023MY models require the system to be in Wiper Service Mode. Note: The wipers are recessed below the hood or rear spoiler to provide an enhanced appearance and help reduce wind noise characteristics.
The following 2023MY vehicles require the wipers to be put in Service Mode to lift the windshield wipers to clean the windshield, inspect or replace wiper blades, or to raise wipers in snow/ice conditions:
- Telluride
- Sorento
- Sportage
- Niro
- EV6
- Stinger
- Carnival
- K5
- Forte
Wiper Service Mode (Raising the windshield wiper arms):
- Turn the vehicle Ignition ON with the engine OFF and then turn the ignition OFF.
- Within Twenty (20) seconds after turning the vehicle ignition OFF; raise the Wiper Blade Control Stalk (Mist), and hold it for more than two (2) seconds
-
The Wiper Arms will move upward, and stop in the vertical position
The Wiper Arms may now be moved away from the Windshield for cleaning, etc. and placed back onto the windshield when done. - To lower the wiper arms, turn the vehicle ignition ON with the engine OFF. Then, move the Wiper Blade Control Stalk up to return the Wipers to the "park" position.
- Finally, turn the vehicle ignition to the OFF position.
Customer Tip: 2023MY Sorento, Carnival, and Sportage has Wiper Service Mode on the front and rear, the front wiper arms will move upward and the rear wiper downward simultaneously where the windshield wipers can then be cleaned and/or serviced.
