SUBJECT: IQS Quick Tip #4 Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Date: November 1st, 2019
This communication explains the phone requirements, setup procedure and some troubleshooting tips for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Note: The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features are available on many 2020 MY Kia vehicles including all Tellurides.
In order for a customer to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the customer’s phone must meet some basic requirements:
- Certified phone manufacturer cable
- Android Phones:
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher
- Android Auto App
- Apple Phones:
- iPhone 6S or later
Note: A cabled connection is required as a large amount of data is being transferred between the device and the infotainment system. The latest available phone software version and app version is always preferred.
In Vehicle Setup Procedure:
- Press the “SETUP” hard key.
- Select the “Phone Projection” or “Device Connection” button on the touch screen
- Select and enable Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
- Select “Yes” when prompted per the messages below:
- Android Users only: Download and install the Android Auto app from the Google Play store
- Connect the device to your vehicle’s USB port with the cable that was provided with your phone.
- From the home menu select the Android Auto or Apple CarPlay Icon
- Android Users only: The following message may appear on the Audio Display
- Accept all prompts on the mobile device to complete setup
Troubleshooting:
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable
- Restart the phone
- Use a different device manufacturer cable
- Update to the latest phone / app version
- Lint or debris in the phone’s charge port can cause connection issues. If this is the suspected cause, advise the customer to bring the device to the wireless provider to inspect and clean the phone’s charge port.
