SUBJECT: IQS Quick Tip #8 - Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)

DATE: November 2022

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) is a supplemental Advanced Driving Assistance System feature designed to detect the lane markers on the road with a front view camera on the windshield and may assist the driver's steering to help keep the vehicle in the detected lane under certain conditions. The feature is available on some trims of 23 MY Kia vehicles including Telluride, K5, Sorento, Forte, Soul, Seltos, Stinger, Carnival, Niro, EV6, and Sportage. The instrument cluster indicator will initially illuminate white when LKA is turned ON. The indicator is designed to remain white when the vehicle is traveling slower than 40 mph or when the system does not detect the lane markers. When the system detects lane markers and all operating conditions are met, the LKA icon is designed to illuminate green.

There are selectable modes found within the instrument cluster or navigation system for LKA (Note: The settings and descriptions may vary by model):

  • Assist – Automatically assists with steering to help prevent the vehicle from leaving the lane
  • Warning Only – Provides a warning when the vehicle leaves the lane without operating the turn signal switch
  • Off – Disables the Lane Safety functions

To select the desired Lane Safety feature within the cluster, first access the User Setting mode, then select the Driver Assistance menu, then select the Lane Safety sub-menu, and then select the desired mode.

For the 2023 Stinger, LKA requires the steering wheel control button to be depressed for 2 seconds in order to engage LKA.

LKA can be activated or deactivated by depressing the LKA button with the ignition switch or START/STOP button in the ON position.
