SUBJECT:  IQS Quick Tip #6 Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) System with Ultrasonic Sensors on Telluride

Spending the time during every Telluride perfect delivery to explain new technology features, such as the Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system with Ultrasonic Sensors, to a customer elevates the customer experience and reduces the chance of a misunderstanding of a feature.

This feature can help alert the driver when a rear passenger is left in the vehicle.

System Operation:

1st Alert:

A rear door was previously opened and closed. Engine was started, turned off, and the driver’s door is opened, the "Check rear seats" warning message appears on the cluster.

*If you do not want to use the Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system, press OK button on the steering wheel when the 1st alert is displayed on the cluster. Doing so will deactivate the 2nd alert one time only.

2nd Alert:

The 2nd alert operates when any movement is detected in the rear seat after the driver's door is closed and all the doors are locked. The horn will activate for about 25 seconds.

If the system continues to detect a movement, the alert operates up to 8 times. The system will continue to detect movement for 24hrs after the doors are locked.

To cancel the alert, unlock the door with the remote (Smart Key).

Ultrasonic Passenger Occupant Sensor Located in the Headliner

Factory default for Rear Occupant Alert with Ultrasonic Sensors is set to ON. You can activate or deactivate the system in the instrument cluster. The option can be found under the following menu: User Settings→ Convenience →Rear Occupant Alert.

CAUTION: Make sure that all the windows are closed. If the window is open, the alert may activate by the sensor detecting an unintended movement (e.g., wind or flying bugs).

• Windows rolled down with the doors locked can cause false activation due to wind, noise, and movement around the vehicle.
• The alert may activate if movement in the driver or passenger seat is detected, or may activate with the doors locked due to a car wash, surrounding vibration, or noise being picked up by the ultrasonic sensors within 24 hours of turning off the vehicle and locking the doors. The system is designed to be sensitive to any movement and to alert the vehicle driver with an audible and visible warning.

NOTICE:

• If the customer’s Kia Access with UVO Link account is activated and notifications are enabled, they will receive the following phone notification when ROA is triggered.
