EV Quick Tip #13

Not only did the Niro EV receive a complete exterior and interior redesign for 2023—its EV technologies also received an upgrade. This year, Niro EV’s Adjustable Regenerative Braking System gains i-PEDAL for added convenience—designed to help the driver to stop the vehicle without having to hit the brakes. The All-New Niro EV also offers an Onboard Power Generator that enables customers to use their EV battery to power certain household appliances when parked, such as a mini-fridge or projector. Let’s take a look at each of these innovations in more detail.

i-PEDAL

Niro EV's Adjustable Regenerative Braking System offers four general levels of regeneration that can be set with the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters*: 0, 1, 2, or 3. AUTO mode may also be engaged to automatically adjust the regenerative braking level based on the navigation* system and flow of traffic. New for 2023 is
i-PEDAL mode.

Customers can engage i-PEDAL in order to help increase the kinetic energy captured by the Regenerative Braking System, which may help to extend the All Electric Range* (AER) of their Niro EV. i-PEDAL is also designed to help enable the driver to bring the vehicle to a gentle halt without needing to press the brake pedal—for maximum convenience.

To activate the system:

  • Pull the left-side paddle to "LEVEL THREE" regenerative braking
  • Pull the left-side paddle once again to "MAX"
  • The "i-PEDAL" indicator symbol will be illuminated on the instrument cluster

To deactivate the system:

  • Pull the right-side paddle to decrease to the preferred level of regenerative braking

Note: When engaging i-PEDAL, customers should remain alert and always be ready to apply the brake to stop the vehicle themselves if necessary.

Onboard Power Generator with Connector

When customers step up to the 2023 Niro EV Wave, they will enjoy the convenience of an Onboard Power Generator with Connector which utilizes the vehicle's standard 64.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery to power certain devices and electronics outside the vehicle when parked. Customers who work from a mobile office or frequently enjoy camping will be excited to take advantage of this convenient, portable electricity supply.

To use the Onboard Power Generator with Connector:

  1. Open the charge port door in the front of the vehicle.
  2. Plug in the Onboard Power Generator connector-which comes standard with this feature-into the charging port. The charging port light will flash red, and the connector is designed to lock to help prevent theft.
  3. Plug the device to be powered into the connector.
  4. Press the switch on the rear of the Onboard Power Generator connector and verify the light on top of the connector illuminates green, indicating the Onboard Power Generator is active. The charging port light will also illuminate green.
    1. If the light does not illuminate, there is an error, such as the battery charge level being too low.
  5. Turn off the Onboard Power Generator by pressing the switch on the rear of the Onboard Power Generator connector and unplugging it from the charging port.

Note: The Onboard Power Generator allows customers to utilize up to 80% of the vehicle's maximum battery capacity.
